Meet Michelle

Electrical Engineering
Class of ’18

Hey there, welcome to my student page! I’m Michelle, a junior majoring in Electrical Engineering from Orlando, Florida. On campus, I’m involved as a Freshman Academy Coach, Society of Women Engineers, and SC Racing! In addition, I’m working at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory on the Europa Mission! Living in Los Angeles is amazing as well! My favorite things to do are finding delicious new restaurants, playing tennis, and exploring the art and culture the melting pot of LA has to offer! Involvements

  • fewi
I interned at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory for my past two summers! I am currently working there part-time in the Avionics group of the Europa Mission! I’m having a blast, and I love how my schedule is flexible enough to allow me to continue my summer internship year-round!
As a Freshmen Academy Coach, I mentor first-semester engineering students in an introduction engineering course that focuses on the 14 Grand Challenges! It’s a lot of fun interacting with the students, and it’s an incredibly rewarding experience!
SWE aims to stimulate women to achieve full potential in careers as engineers and leaders. I’ve met an amazing group of women through this organization, and I love that the USC chapter includes a variety community, social, and professional networking events!

My Major at USC: Electrical Engineering

My Favorite Classes
I’m learning the basics of semiconductor device characteristics and real-life applications. The topics include physical models of electronic conduction in solids, p-n junctions, bipolar and field effect transistors and other solid state devices.
This class focuses on the representation and analysis of linear time-invariant systems primarily for the continuous time case. Topics include convolution, Fourier series and transform, Laplace transform, controls and communications applications.

My Tips for You

Application Essays

I thought of my college essay as a sort of personal narrative. Try it out, and maybe you’ll realize that writing the essay becomes enjoyable rather than a chore! Also, don’t overthink the short answer section. They’re not trick questions!

Application Extracurriculars

Don’t feel pressured to list every last extracurricular activity you’ve ever remotely been involved in. It’s totally cool just to talk about the few things you’re most interested in.

Two Truths and a Lie

Can you guess which of these are true or false?
True! It meant so much to me to be able to share my experiences and share how much the EE department means to me.
False! Actually, I’ve taken a variety of fun classes like Yoga and Ballroom Dancing!
False, duh! I love being able to explore all the different kinds of food in LA. Weekends are dedicated to food exploration!

My Favorite Shows

  • Parks and Recreation is a classic for me! It’s funny, witty, and each episode is  short enough to help me relax a little in between classes or homework sets!

  • Probably one of my favorite shows on TV right now! It’s fun, lighthearted, and actually got me into the superhero scene! Next stop, Comic-Con in San Diego?

  • The Office never fails to make me laugh out loud. I’ll be honest, I cried a little when *SPOILER ALERT* Jim and Pam got married and when Michael had to leave 🙁 Nevertheless, definitely one of my favorites!
