Loic Alini

Mechanical Engineering, Class of 2021

Dublin, California

I’m Loic, a Junior studying Mechanical Engineering with an interest in Computer Science and Electrical Engineering. On campus, I am involved in 3D4E, which is a student Org for 3D Printing and CAD hobbyists, and I volunteer at A Place Called Home through JEP to tutor kids at a community center in South Central LA. For the past two summers, I worked as a Mechanical Engineering Intern at Intel. In my spare time, I enjoy exploring LA eateries, concerts, golfing, and cheering on the best football team in the country!

My Involvements

  • Image result for a place called homeI have been volunteering at A Place Called Home since freshman year. In my GE class first semester, I was given the option to complete a final project, or volunteer throughout the semester. I gladly volunteered, and still continue to do so till this day!

  • I am a member of the 3D4E chapter here at USC. This 3D printing club operates by forming groups at the beginning of the year. The group then researches and comes up with an idea to work on throughout the course of the year. The group then presents the finished product at the end of the year!

I have fallen in love with the city of Los Angeles. The culture, diversity, food, fun… It’s all so overwhelming at times.

  • The people I have meet at USC have been incredible. I’ve met people with different passions and hometowns that span the globe. I have grown so much as a person because of them.

My Major: Mechanical Engineering

     Why Mechanical?

Growing up, I had always been fascinated with playing with legos, scrapping things together, and I LOVED cars. Fast forward to high school, my favorite class was AP Physics C: Mechanics. Although I came into USC as Industrial and Systems Engineering, I quickly switched to MechE because I was longing for a more hands on major. I haven't looked back since!

Passion in the Classroom

My Favorite Courses

This is a junior level class for aerospace, mechanical, and astronautical engineers with Professor Yann Daniel Staelens. The purpose of the class is to learn how to use computer modeling to create 3D parts, assemblies, and run tests using he program NX. Although very time consuming, I really enjoy the challenge and learning how to make things come to fruition from my imagination.
