Back in March, I would have never thought that I’d still be taking all of my classes online well into second semester, yet here we are. I was so sad to have to stay home through the end of the spring semester, and all I wanted was to be able to come back to campus to take my classes and see my friends. As summer continued, I knew this wouldn’t exactly be a possibility, and I began to worry once my original housing plans fell through.
I decided that even if classes were going to be online and campus life wouldn’t be the same, I still wanted to move back down to LA to at least be near campus and feel somewhat like I was still in college. Some of my friends and I, a few of which I didn’t know very well at the time, all found an apartment off campus that we were able to sign a lease for about a month before the semester started, and on August 15th we were all back in LA, ready to start the strangest semester of our lives.
I was worried about living with people I didn’t know very well, especially now where I would be spending quite literally all of my time with them. Thankfully, it ended up working out very well! My roommates and I all get along super well, and have so much fun together, whether we’re spending a day at the beach or just hanging out in the living room. With everything going on and having so many things get cancelled and changed around in my life, I’m so glad that I at least get to be with some good friends in my home.
While taking classes online is still not ideal, it’s gotten a little better being closer to campus and out of my childhood home. I finally have my own space to be doing my work at, and being with others also in the same position makes it a much more productive working environment. We all also make trips to campus sometimes, just to get out of the apartment and remember what life used to be like on campus. Hopefully I’ll be able to take some classes on campus in the spring, but for now I’m just trying to take it day by day, and enjoy what I can with my roommates.
