There are design teams for almost every major within Viterbi, and you don’t even have to be a Biomedical Engineering Major to be a part of the BME Beast Desgin Team! Each teams needs students from every major. The Formula One SAE Racing Team (pictured to the right) is entirely student run and they have students ranging from electrical engineers, to mechanical engineers, and even a business major! At the end of the year, the SC racing team drives to Nebraska to compete against other college teams.
A great way to make connections or even just make some new study buddies within a certain engineering discipline is to join a professional Viterbi organization. Almost every major has professional organizations such as Association for Computing Machinery, to Associated Students of Biomedical Engineering (pictured right). Professional organizations will often hold career information sessions, resume reviews, and study sessions to help succeed at USC and beyond!
Innovation and start up related organizations allow for an open exchange of ideas and potentially can open doors to help students get their start up ideas off the ground! Spark SC aims to inspire innovation and provide support through mentorship and connections. Spark SC is currently participating in one of the largest pitching campaigns where they are working to get 1000 pitches from students and one of the pitches will win $10000 in cash prizes.
Social and cultural organizations around USC help bring together students of minorities to help them through their engineering experience at USC. Organizations range from the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers to the National Society for Black Engineers, to the largest USC Viterbi student organization, the Society of Women Engineers (pictured left). SWE holds a night with industry to help women obtain internships and mentors female high school students in the USC area to help them in math and science fields. Social organizations within Viterbi are a great way to make new friends and connections with people that have something in common with you!
