#27

I feel it is only right for me to write a little something about the Yankees, the greatest franchise in the history of sports.  Today they clinched their 27th world series win, putting them 17 over the team with the next most wins — the Cardinals.  What made this series special was the fact that they won it in their first year in the new Yankee Stadium, just as they did back in 1923 in the old Yankee Stadium.  I’ve now seen 5 world series titles won by the Bronx Bombers, and honestly every time it gets more special.  I love this team, and I couldn’t have been happier when Robinson Cano threw the ball to Mark Teixeira to clinch this one!
I have to say though, it made me miss home.  Seeing and hearing all the fans at the game, combined with talking to my siblings in New Jersey and my cousins who were at the game, I really felt left out of the action.  I guess, as Frank Sinatra said, “I want to be a part of it.”  New York City is amazing, and I’m excited to get back there after this semester, and experience a winter the way it was meant to be.  It’ll make it even better going home to the champions.

Here’s the song that’s played after Yankees games, just after the announcer (on the radio) says “Ball game over.  World Series over. YANKEES WIN!! THEEEEEEEE YANKEES WIN!!!!”:

Engineers and the Arts

Me and a few other of the engineers at USC made a webisode about engineers who are also involved in the arts! Check it out:

Yankees, Sushi, Yankees

This past weekend was Parents’ Weekend at USC, and so my Parents and little brother came out.  On Thursday, I got a call from them, in between classes, trying to figure out the night.

“Would you rather get some sushi tonight, or watch the Yankees?” my mom asked.

“Well I think they have a TV at the restaurant, so I mean we can do both, right?”  I replied.  “Wait…you don’t mean GO to the game, do you?!”

“YEAH! We were going to ask the concierge to help us get tickets!”

“YANKEES FOR SURE!!”  And at that moment, an hour and half before the game started, I realized how awesome my family is.

We went to the game, I in my Yankees hat, my brother in a jersey.  It didn’t take the fans long to know that we were true fans straight out of northern New Jersey.  Even though the Yanks lost 7-6 in game 5, it was probably the best game I have ever been to!!  So much fun, and even better because I was there with the family (minus my sister…).
Then, on Friday, I hung out at their hotel, the W, in Westwood for a few hours in the afternoon, and just relaxed and got a break from school and midterms and all of that.  Honestly, it was AWESOME!  I played in teh pool with my brother, and just hung out in the sun and had a ridiculously good burger.  We got up and got dressed for dinner at Katana, a sushi place on Sunset.  The food was PHENOMENAL.  Everything tasted delicious, and every dish left us in a state of awe — from appetizers all the way to dessert.  The dinner lasted about 3 and a half hours, and I loved every minute of it.

I slept at the hotel that night, and the four of us got up to walk around Westwood to get some breakfast at Jerry’s (good food).  We got back to the hotel, and I hung out at the pool again with my brother for an hour, before going to get my hair cut off.  Immediately afterward, we went to the USC football game, which ended up being far closer than anticipated.  I got my little brother into the student section to sit with me and my friends, and he had a blast.

After the game, me and my roommates went to dinner with our parents at a place called Oak Fire Pizza on La Cienega.  Again, a great meal.  I went back to the hotel and stayed there again, so that I could say bye to everyone before their flight.  Overall, this Parents’ Weekend was amazing and undeniably memorable.
I can’t end this without mentioning today — Yankees play the Angels in game 6 of the ALCS.  Simultaneously, the Giants were playing the Cardinals on Sunday Night Football, and the Gladiator was being shown on TV.  I spent most of my time watching THE YANKEES WIN THE ALCS!!! Their FORTIETH pennant in franchise history!  Bring it on Phillies, that’s all I have to say.  We’re getting number 27 this year! LET’S GO YANKEES!!!  (giants lost…oh well.)

I’ll be wearing my yanks hat around LA for a while.

Studying

I’ve got two pretty hard midterms coming up in the next two days, and I’ve got way too much going on.  I’ll be up all night studying tonight, and going straight into an 8 am meeting.  Pressure is building from all sorts of sources, and I am trying to manage my time.  It’s a bit overwhelming right now, but at least the material we’re covering is interesting and enjoyable!  Anyway, I should get back to studying. ugh….

Studying — aka watching sports

Tomorrow begins the first round of midterms.  This week there are two for me (on top of the other few assignments I have), and I am not looking forward to it.  Oh well.

As far as this weekend goes, I had a good time!  Lots of fun things, but most importantly a few big wins for my teams.  Saturday the Trojans destroyed the WSU Cougars, which is always fun to watch.  Then today, the Yankees clinched the division against the Red Sox (always great watching them win), after beating them Saturday as well.  The Giants are undefeated so far, and I couldn’t be happier.  And then of course I have to hand it to my man Mark Sanchez, showing the NFL how it’s done.  But yeah, I should really be doing some hw/studying….

Beatles Rock Band

Alright so Beatles Rock Band is AMAZING!! About a week ago a few of my friends got it, and we played it for about 4 hours that night.  As one of the biggest Beatles fans I know, I was in heaven!  The videos are all of computer animations of the Beatles, wearing the right clothes for the time, and there I am playing bass and singing.  Honestly, it was like a dream come true.  If only I could have been born in time to see the Beatles myself haha.  Anyway, we ended up being the story mode of the game, and then some.  A few days later I went and got the remastered Sergeant Pepper’s album, to see if it really makes a difference.  It does I guess, but unless you’re really set on giving the remaining Beatles a bunch of money, I’d get Beatles Rock Band before the remastered albums.  Good game.
